Does Your Heat Pump Need a Tune-Up?

Air Systems Experts recommends scheduling a tune-up for your homes heat pump system at least once a year, in the spring or fall before the weather changes. A regularly maintained system will work better, and for longer than a system that doesn't get maintenance. The exact maintenance steps for your heat pump check will vary based on the type and condition, but you can expect to follow along with these steps:

• Inspect the refrigerant lines and the insulation of the refrigerant lines. Ensure that refrigerant lines are properly secured.
• Ensure the outdoor unit is level and draining properly.
• Examine the outdoor unit blower.
• Inspect the outdoor unit coil for damage or anything that might obstruct airflow and clean as necessary.
• Check all indoor units to ensure they are level to ensure proper condensate removal
• Inspect the indoor units and filters for dirt or debris and clean as necessary
• Examine the indoor blower systems in ducted systems
• Check the condensate lines and any condensate pumps in the system
• Check the outdoor safety disconnect
• Test wired thermostat (if used) and remote control operation and replace any remote control batteries as needed
• Start-up system and test operation. Test the operation of each indoor unit in both heating and cooling mode.
